Default Music!

What's the policy toward music in your workplace? And what are you listening to?

Nearly everyone here has speakers, and we're all playing something at some stage of the day. Usually 2 or 3 types music on at any time, but the volumes are usually quite low, and the management hasn't had to ban anyone for years now.

I've got a mix of Gen, POD, Joe Satriani, Audio Adrenaline, Switchfoot, Relient K, Evanescence, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, MercyMe, Steve Vai, and Where On Earth playing at the moment!

We all have earphones here (for those who brought some that is.) So, it's no problem at all

Joe, nobody I ever worked with ever played music that cool. I remember being crazy having to listen to an annoying Southern Rock station years ago. I think it was syndicated - one of those redneck morning shows.

Bah, my old workplace had Radio1 playing 24/7. It was horrible. Playing the "in tracks" is all very well, but 10 times a day each is over the top. Also I suspect that there was bribery going on, since most of the "#1 hits" were tracks that wouldn't have made it into my top 1000.

I hate it when my husband tunes in to Radio1 for a few hours at home. I can't imagine listening to it day in and day out at work!

I have earphones, and usually listen to a local radio station on the computer. Otherwise, I prefer mellow favorites such as John Mayer and Norah Jones.

Most of my working life was spent in offices where I was on the phone a lot, so no music for me. Now orkng from home I usually load up the CD player with my choices and let it roll. other times, silence is golden.

We can play music at our workplace, as long as we keep it quiet. We can't have it filtering out into the main reception area where the secretaries are, which is pretty easy to do since we have a pretty open floorplan.

It is hard to contain music when you have an open floorplan. Harder still when you share an office with someone. Many years ago, I worked in a very small office with one other person. We ended up alternating what we listened to every day, so each of us could enjoy something we liked, despite our different tastes.

We get to listen to whatever we can agree on. Luckily, we all are about the same age and have similar tastes. Music creates a fun work atmosphere.

The alternating thing is a good idea, however I now work in an office where there are 2 guys who alternate their music morning and afternoon. That leaves me with nothing
