(So, I apologize in advance if you are one of the IT people...
)However, I am *so* over the IT people here. I know a good bit about computers, but there are times that my work computer goes on the fritz. Every time I have to call IT, they talk to me as if I am only 5 years old. Every word coming out of their mouth is so condescending! Our IT people try to tell you to do everything over the phone, and get so impatient when I cannot keep up with their instructions. I just love it when they come over to the office, and they realize I *DO* have a true issue. They walk in with an odd "I know computers" swagger, and sit down like they are out to save the world. Then, they can't get my computer to work! Too funny. The last IT guy who was here was really bad. When he saw the same problem, I just said "I told you. See, there really was a problem." He just grunted. Ahhhh... life with IT tech support! Can't live with 'em, can't keep ancient dinosaur computers running without them! ![]() |

LOL. It reminds me of a situation several years ago. I was the new kid in the company, and had a problem with my desktop. When I called IT, the fist thing they did was interuppt me when I was telling them what my computer was doing by asking me "did you reboot?".
Having been around the block once or twice, I had in fact already tried rebooting. In fact, I knew a couple of other tricks and had tried them too. None of them fixed the problem. It became a standard thing for me and everyone around me to preface every conversation with It with the phrase "this is the problem and yes I already tried rebooting!". |

LOL. It is pretty apparent when you have rebooted your computer. I can't imagine anyone who would be unable to confirm whether they had or had not done so.
To be fair, I have seen some folks do some boneheaded things with their computers and expect IT to be able to get them out of a jam. But those have been few and far between. I think most of us have enough common sense to try the stock solutions before we actually call for help. |

I have to agree that some people certainly are clueless when it comes to their computer. My boss is one of those people! I know my way around a computer fairly well. She will page me at any time during my work day in order to get me to come help her. She is famous for saving something, and then not being able to find it. She always just hits "Save" and doesn't designate the folder. I am so tired of searching for files on her computer!! She is always convinced that the computer "just ate them".

You can get in trouble for answering the phone and saying
"IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?" When fault-finding a user who's skills you have no clue about, you tend to expect the worst. Like the person who unplugs their router to plug in a coffee machine, and then shouts down the phone that they can't connect to the network. |

This certainly sounds like my boss. She was hollering one time about her printer not working. Ummm... it wasn't plugged in. |

That's the kind of person, yes
![]() It could be worse, some of the things people have done... well you wouldn't believe me if i told you. Then again there are people who are intelligent and skilled, just not in the field of computers. Those kind of people, willing to learn and quick on the uptake, are the ones that keep me going. Not nearly enough of them, although you tend to meet one occasionally and it makes you feel better about the job. |

Also people who pout at the printer because their print job hasn't come off in the nanosecond they've hit the ok button on the print menu. I have to gently remind them there is a print queue and jobs come out on a "first come, first served basis"
