I don't think there is unless it could be done via internet usage after the theft. I've read of so many cases in both the government, corporations and private individuals where the thefts meant compromised security and info. Seems our government would have figured a way to track their computers, and they haven't that I've heard of.

Hm. Anyways.
I'm certain there is a laptop tracking system out there somwhere, especially since there are some pretty high tech, expensive, and sensitive (in terms of the information they contain) laptops out there. I did a quick Google search and this was the first link to pop up: http://www.absolute.com/computraceplus/faqs.asp One downside is that the computer needs to connect to the internet to transmit the location signal. |

I heard on the news yesterday that the IRS can now trace their laptops. You'd know they'd do it first. The interesting thing is that they're able to erase files via a GPS device. That's probably where my returns went they claim to have lost.
