While having ahome business is insulating and satisfying ot can become claustrophobic at times.
If you are able to keep bright cheery papers for correspondance. Too business like is often stifling. Keep some sort of cadence in teh background. Like movies or music that fit you and keep your energy up. Take frequent breaks. I found that working at home when too constraine can be as bad as working in an office. If you can start up a small im or chat sesion with another perosn who is working at home to be more productive. Boucning ideas off of another can helpt o amke work go smoothly, even if the Ims are distracting. Keep your office the way you want it. If youcan find stuff in a mess, dont clean just dust and vacume and take away old dishes and glasses and mugs. If you are creative, get a amgnet for needles and pins that fall on the floor or a small hand held vacume thast used for nothing else. Kepe a small TV somewhere. keeping int ouch wiht the news and information is vital. Youd be amaazed at how many woemn and men who work at home while their spouse is out in weather often have no idea of what is happening and may be angry when they come in late. keep coffee/te/coco in a pot in another room. Unless you work in teh kuitchen like I do. Keep low calorie healthy snacks.. it seesmw hen you work at home your more apt to continually snack. In an office scheduled breaks lead you toa snack machie, you ahve the option of helathy foods. make a crock pot dinner. If your homeworking schedule is going to be heavy or involved plan on a on pot dinner. |

I think its really important if you work at home to create a separate work space like an office. I would not put a tv in the office though because i would just lazy out and watch it. I also make sure to keep it neat and orderly with everything i would need available.

It is definitely vital to have a separate place for business. It is important to get up and get dressed as though you were starting an official workday. Be sure to lessen the number of distractions (definitely no TV!) I would also suggest setting up uninterrupted time that you *must* designate for work. No excuses! It takes a lot of discipline to get work done at home. It is way too easy to get side-tracked.

If you are working at home the bills and deadline are what will help you make decision. TV is too destructive or you can turn it on every now and then, but radio is great in the background with music most of the time and hourly news and weather.

A radio can get distracting to me, too. I tend to get lost in the music and start daydreaming (especially with Christmas music.. as I stated in another post) I need it to be quiet, and I need to turn off the phone. I also need to keep other items out of my line of vision. If I see a pile of bills, or magazines, or dirty dishes... I will stop working and tend to it.
My regular office at work is the same way. If it is cluttered with lots of piles, my mind goes a million directions and I have a tough time sticking to task. The neater, the better!! |

We have the same feeling stephanie. I need to put off the radio or Tv in order to work. My mind would be so chaos if I something destruct me.. either, music or loud things from the kids. In the office, the same thing too.
