Default Office gossip...

So... does your place of work have a major gossip mill? Around here, word spreads like WILDFIRE! I never know what is true or not, but it sure does get tongues wagging. We have a few employees in particular who cannot wait to share the latest dirt.

How do you all handle this? Do you work in a very gossipy environment?

My place of work has a HORRIBLE gossip mill! They have gotten to be almost backstabbing...being nice to a person's face, but then going ahead and talking about them behind their back. It isn't really the whole office as much as it's a few key people who can't keep their mouths shut. I find it hard to handle, but the other employees I associate with feel the same way, so we buddy up and just try to ignore it and not provide any more fuel to the fire.

This stuff makes my skin crawl. I just act clueless about everything said and act surprised with alot of "but she seems no nice. Im really surprised. Really? wow...." i dont add anything to it and i know i cant stop it without causing myself problems so i just let it be. Yeah i know im a sell out.

You're aren't a sellout! You just know what you have to do to get along in your work environment!

I don't stop the gossiper. I try not to feed it by asking questions or acting too intrigued. Some of the gossip really catches my attention. But, otherwise, I try to just not pay attention. If I don't feed into it, maybe it will lessen (I figure)

I think you get any group of people together, and gossip will start!

This one girl is a active gossip if you tell her anything even trival things she will repeat it. Ive even asked her point blank if she passed on something i said and she said no but i knew she did because the other girl told me. People like that really get on my nerves. They create such drama out of stuff its not funny. This girl loves to ask about your family and other personal information. I guess so she can pass it on the b**tch

I think gossip is in every place in our office..hehe

We have an officemate who is like a walking radio. Everyday, she has anything to talked to. It´s either one of us or someone around the company. Sometimes this will only lead into trouble.

Every place has it the guys and gals are just like a knitting circle where i work and its sad that people must report and comment upon everyones movements in a critical fashion.

It is mildly gossipy here, but nothing done in bad taste or against anyone, I think the atmosphere is pretty good....unless I'm the one they're gossiping against

Office gossip happens. I choose to not actively participate. Far too often it has to do with things that happen outside the office anyway, and I could care less what people as long as their work is done. But I have to admit that over the years I have found it easier to keep my mouth shut, and just let it go on, rather than try to stem the tide.

I do not care to listen to gossip. I think gossip can be unfair and can do damage. I think of people who gossip as meddlers who should mind their own business. If they have a problem with someone at any level, wouldn't it be braver to say something directly to someone instead of behind their back? I avoid the dishing at the coffee pot and the water cooler. I change the subject if someone wants to gossip with me.
