Default Do you use a multifunction?

How many people here use a multifunction machine?

I have to admit, I was cautious at first - after all, with the inbuilt copy/fax/scan it generally means that if one aspect of a multifunction goes, there goes the entire machine.

I've not heard any reports or complaints so far, so I figure a multifunction machine is going to be pretty valuable if you need a scanner or fax and are looking for economy on the workspace taken up.

2c.

I haven't used (or bought) one, mainly due to what you mentionned. Above all, how much did it cost for the machine, and would it have cost the same if you bought them separately?

I've got a combined printer/fax/scanner/copier.

I use it predominantly for printing, but I've had the occasion to use the other functions.

Have you noticed any problems at all with yours, OneofaKind?

I have used plenty of these in the past, but honestly, short of a crappy printer, they are rarely worth it.

I would just prefer to get quality components. Get a good scanner, get a good printer.. and who needs a fax machine.

Triumph, you mention the past. I'm not sure how distant a past you are refering to, but I suspect that you will the find that the functionality is now much better than it used to be.

I have a home office and while I don't use the full functionality of my printer/fax/scanner/copier on a regular basis, it would be extremely space consuming to have seperates for when I do need them.

Agreed - used to be the case that the component technology wasn't so great, but I think it's come on in leaps and bounds since. These days a multifunction is often built by a company that builds their own copiers, printers, and scanners - Epson and Canon immediately come to mind - so a multifunction can often be a good space-saving device when it comes to getting all of the products together.

Got to admit, on my own limited deskspace, I'll be looking very seriously at a multifunction next.

I have a multipurpose and am happy with it. It was mid priced and quality and fairly good. I don't use the fax, but do a lot of printing, coping and scanning. It also has a card reader for some camera cards. Unfortunately it will only read up to 512mb Xd cards, I have been using 1GB.

Also, as for fax machines - I know there's a lot of talk about fax machines being "dead" or "killed" by the internet - but it's been a repeated issue in business that if you need to transfer signed documents quickly, fax is still king.
