The photocopy machine in our office seems to constantly experience paper jams. Could there be something wrong with it if this happens so chronically? We are all getting sick of tearing it apart to get the paper out.

Also check the humidity in the office that can affect the paper going through the copier, there are normally functions on photocopier to change those settings, also check the "paper curl" settings that can also help with continual paper jams.

Always store the copier paper next to the machine that its going to be used on, this will ensure that they are both the same room temperature and also (more importantly) they are operating under the same humidity.
Make sure that you wrap up the copier paper in its original packaging when you have taken the required sheets out, this prevents it from getting and moisture in the paper. Also make sure that you are using a decent quality paper; most people think that it has to be 80gsm - this is incorrect, there is a 10% calibration tolerance in most copiers, printers and faxes. For this reason 75gsm paper will be fine but your machine will struggle is you are using a 70gsm (these also tend to be poor quality). Try using a 90gsm paper - these are generally not much more than 80gsm papers and feel of a higher quality. If all else fails then get your machine looked at as the calibration may be out. |
