If you're on a network then I figure the records are available to access if required. There's been a real stink about how Hewlett Packard have been snooping on employees and being really invasive in capturing email records, etc.

My husband works for the government and you have to be careful about what worrds you use e-mails to him because some words flag a security monitor and the e-mails are automatically forwarded to someone for reading.

Oh i understand emails that get filtered through the network. I mean the instant message programs. Can they get inside them and see what you are chattting about?

The answer is yes. Any data being sent over the office network can be captured. We've tested this at home on our home network and my husband was able to read my AIM chats.

Uh-oh...so I guess we all better be a little careful when complaining about how much we hate our jobs in an AIM session?

It´s better to be careful what you have written. Just bear in mind.. you can´t keep secrets by AIM.

Default Email providers such as Google

Using email programs that function on the server of the provider could evade any tracking program, but if you use Microsoft Outlook it might be difficult to evade them.
